Managing My Time

by Andy on May 26, 2011

If you ask any business owner what is the one thing they wish they had more of (apart from money! :-) ), I’m guessing it would be time…

There is a saying ‘Time waits for no man’ – how true!

Currently I am balancing my IM business (which is mainly focused on providing SEO services to local SME’s) with a ‘job’ albeit a ‘freelance’ one!

A ‘normal’ day usually consists of a 5.30am start which allows me to work for 1 hour on my IM business before getting ready and leaving home at 7.15 for a 45 minute commute.

I get home around 4.45pm and work on my IM business for another hour until dinner and then again afterwards until around 9pm (by which time I’m usually shattered!)

I also dedicate one of my weekend days to my IM business so all in all I estimate that I work over 65 hours per week, and I still don’t get everything done!

I am now trying to plan how to better use the time I have for working on my IM business and the conclusion is; I spend too much time wasting time!

I quite often become engrossed in reading emails, forum posts and product sales pages – so much so that sometimes 2 hours have passed by and I’ve not done a single thing!

The solution?

I need to become more disciplined by allocating myself 3 x 15 minutes time slots to read my mail and favourite forum posts!

In fact, I am going to try and allocate ‘time slots’ for each piece of work that I have to do – this way I should be able to calculate what I can get done in any period of time…

This idea may seem a little extreme to some people but in order to achieve my goals (another future post!) I need to take this action!

Thanks for reading…

Andy
